JBG ROSENFELD BREAKS GROUND ON TYSONS WEST, NEW MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT
TYSONS CORNER, VIRGINIA – JBG Rosenfeld Retail (JBGR) and the JBG Companies broke ground on their Tysons West project, a multi-phased, mixed-use development located on Route 7 at the intersection of Westwood Center Drive, one block from the Tysons Spring Hill Road Metro stop, which is under construction. Tysons West, located on the now vacant property formerly occupied by the Moore Cadillac/Hummer dealership, will be a premier, transit-oriented community where residents and visitors can work, shop, live, dine, and play. Among the new businesses which will be included in the first phase of the construction are a small-format Walmart grocery store and a full-service, state-of-the-art 24 Hour Fitness health club, amenities which will offer residents in the immediate area and surrounding community new shopping and lifestyle options. JBGR’s innovative and sustainable design includes the re-use and repurposing of the existing parking garage that was attached to the former car dealership, and the creation of a new street grid as well as open space. Upon completion, Tysons West will offer a variety of ground floor retail establishments, restaurants with outdoor dining, new residential housing, commercial and medical office space, and a fully renovated Sheraton Premiere Hotel, all within walking distance of the future Metro. “JBGR is proud to be the first company to break ground on a true, transit-oriented, mixed-use development which is the embodiment of Fairfax County’s vision for the future Tysons Corner,” said Jay Klug, principal, JBGR. “Our plan for Tysons West is to transform this car dealership, a space that represents the suburban era, into a quality, New Urban development. Even better, we are taking existing suburban structures, such as a parking garage, and repurposing them for an urban use.” Among those attending the groundbreaking ceremony was Fairfax County Supervisor Catherine M. Hudgins. According to Supervisor Hudgins, “Transit-oriented development near a Metro station is a great use of the land, and encourages a live, work and play environment.” About JBG Rosenfeld Retail: Based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, JBG Rosenfeld Retail specializes in the leasing, development, acquisition, construction, and management of retail properties throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
