MATTRESS WAREHOUSE EXPANDS ROCKVILLE LOCATION
CHEVY CHASE, MARYLAND – Shopping center leasing, management, and development company JBG Rosenfeld Retail (JBGR) recently finalized a lease with regional mattress retailer Mattress Warehouse at its Pike Center Shopping Center in Rockville, a deal which boosts the center to 100% occupancy. The Mattress Warehouse lease is the fourth for Pike Center since last fall, when JBGR announced deals with Jared the Galleria of Jewelry, M&T Bank, and the relocation of United Bank to a larger space in the center. Under the terms of its new lease, Mattress Warehouse has doubled its size at the center, occupying a 7,200 square-foot space between anchor Office Depot and the new United Bank branch. The store continues to carry a full line of Sealy, Serta, Simmons, and Stearns & Foster products, as well as the popular Tempur-Pedic brand, among others. The recent flurry of lease activity at Pike Center is one part of a larger effort by JBGR to redevelop Pike Center. The redevelopment will include the construction of two, new pad buildings for M&T Bank and Jared which will front Rockville Pike, as well as a façade update, new pylon sign, and improvements to the parking area to include new curbs and gutters, lighting, landscaping, and repaving. JBGR hopes to commence construction this summer. “We are very pleased that Mattress Warehouse doubled in size at our shopping center for their flagship location in Rockville,” said JBGR Executive Vice President Bob Schwenger. “Our planned changes for Pike Center will enhance the shopping experience for the customers and the enhancements at Mattress Warehouse and addition of the other retailers is one step to that end. We are confident they will find continued success here.” Founded in 1989 with a single, 1,200 square-foot location in Frederick, Maryland, Mattress Warehouse built its reputation on the notion of superior customer service and the widest selection of quality name brand bedding. The company, which now boasts more than 150 stores in six states and the District of Columbia, also offers online shopping on its Web site www.sleephappens.com. Located at the intersection of Bou Avenue and Rockville Pike, Pike Center is a 74,000 square-foot community shopping center anchored by Office Depot, TGI Fridays, and CiCi’s Pizza. JBGR acquired the 45-yearold center in 2006. Based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, JBG Rosenfeld Retail specializes in the leasing, development, acquisition, construction, and management of retail properties throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Currently, JBGR holds more than 30 shopping centers, nine freestanding store sites, and numerous mixed-use retail sites in its portfolio.
